volunteer opportunities

Make a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Here's how you can help:

Spay/Neuter Program
We get hundreds of inquiries each month about our spay/neuter program. If you can spend some time assisting pet owners in need of low-cost spay/neuter options, PAWS will provide all necessary training and information. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Accountant/bookkeeper
PAWS is looking for an accountant or bookkeeper willing to help with day-to-day finance activities. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Feral Cat Trapping
Adventurous? PAWS needs help trapping feral cats to be neutered/spayed and vaccinated. Some kittens are entered into our adoption program. Cats not able to be socialized are returned. This is a great way to be directly involved in the prevention of homeless animals. Help is also needed to manage PAWS' supply of humane traps for loan. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Adoption Center Volunteers
It's a dirty job... But someone has to do it. Actually, it's not that dirty, it's fun. PAWS adoption centers in the West and East Shore PETsMARTs and the West Shore Superpetz need cat and kitten lovers to clean cages and play with their inhabitants throughout the week. Especially in demand are people to help out on weekday mornings and weekend evenings. Right now, a small group of dedicated (but tired) volunteers has been filling the voids, but with just one day a month, you can make a difference. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Adoption Coordinators
Like to interact with the public? PAWS needs volunteers to process adoption applications and serve as adoption coordinators at the West and East Shore PETsMART locations. Adoption coordinators answer questions and meet with potential adopters to assist them in finding the right cat or kitten. (Coordinators would need to commit to one evening per week, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.) Application processors would need to pick up applications on Sunday and process them on Monday, enabling timely home visits that week to complete the adoption process. Call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4 for more information and help some foster animals find a permanent home.

Fundraisers
PAWS organizes or participates in a number of fundraising events each year. If you can help staff tables or provide support or other services, we need you. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Humane Education
Help spread the word! If you enjoy public speaking or working with children, PAWS needs your help educating the community on the benefits of spay/neuter, pet adoption and responsible pet ownership. Please contact Humane Education Committee Chair Jean Lear at jfl121@aol.com.

Clerical Assistant
Provide clerical support like data entry or filing for areas of development/fundraising and business administration. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

Writer/wordsmith
PAWS publishes a print newsletter, The Paw Print, for members and supporters. If you can help identify stories and write articles about the animals we help, Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.

TNR clinic
PAWS holds Friday spay/neuter clinics for feral cats approximately 25 times per year. A variety of tasks are available, from helping with check in, to hands-on jobs like ear cleaning to recovery monitoring. It's a rewarding experience that directly impacts the cat overpopulation crisis in our area. Please call PAWS at (717) 957-8122, box #4.
