ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

PAWS animals awaiting adoption are cared for in local foster homes where they receive individual attention in a family environment. We get to know each pet's special qualities and personality.

Our foster parents and adoption coordinators work as a team to match owners with the cat, dog, kitten or puppy that best suits their lifestyle.

PAWS relies on foster families to care for animals entering our adoption program. You can choose to foster a cat, dog, kitten or puppy.  For more information on our foster program email info@pawsofpa.org

We update our adoptable pet pages as often as possible. However, we are an all volunteer organization and cannot guarantee that the animals listed here will be available when you visit us. For your convenience, please check out our adoption locations and hours here.

How does the adoption process work?

If there is a particular animal that interests you, we ask that you complete an adoption application form. If you have questions, an adoption counselor will be happy to help you select an animal that fits your lifestyle and expectations.

    • Due to the time and consideration given to each adoption, no application can be processed the same day of application. We want you to have plenty of time to make a decision that will affect you and your potential pet for its lifetime.
    • Each adoption is approved on an individual basis. Some animals may not be considered appropriate for your particular situation, and so may not be adopted to you.
    • All animals are required to be spayed or neutered before they go home. Exceptions may be made for animals that have medical reasons requiring postponement. In these cases a future date for surgery will be scheduled or a note from the veterinarian ensuring zero reproduction capability.

All adoptions are finalized with an adoption contract. Essentially, we are asking that you provide a loving home and veterinary care for the lifetime of the animal.

How much does it cost?

Due to the overwhelming success of the June Adopt-A-Cat Month promotion that reduced adoption fees by up to half, PAWS has extended the promotion through September 30, 2009. Regular adoption fees range from $50-$100.

Cats 1 year and younger  NOW through September 30, 2009 $50!
Cats up to 2 years NOW through September 30, 2009 $50!
Cats over 2 years NOW through September 30, 2009 $30!

Dogs varies

What is included in the adoption fee?

    • Medical examination for general good health
    • Spay or neuter surgery  (*the animal may not be spayed or neutered if serious health issues are present and/or the animal is assured not to be able to reproduce – ie ovarian cysts, etc. – a note from the Veterinarian must be shown as documentation.
    • Microchip identification implant
    • Rabies immunization (for animals 4 months of age or older)
    • Distemper/parvo immunization
    • De-worming
    • Feline leukemia virus/feline immunodeficiency virus combo test (cats)
    • Heartworm test (dogs)

We receive new animals, so if we don’t have what you are looking for when you visit, please come back another day.

Home 4 the Holidays

What better gift can any of us give during the holiday season than to give a home to an orphaned pet?

This year, a donation of just $30 allows an individual, family, business or school to become a sponsor and help a rescued pet find a permanent new home.
