A few months ago, PAWS put out a plea for donations to help Sadie, a German Shepherd who needed two hip replacements. Since then Sadie has been adopted and thanks to generous donations, had her first surgery and is recovering in her new home. Here's an update on Sadie from her new family...

Sadie had her first surgery four weeks ago and is healing very well. For the first few nights after the surgery she was in a lot of pain, but Mommy slept by her side every night on the floor. It was hard trying to understand why she had this big cone on her head and it was so hard to eat and drink with it on. But things get better everyday! We are glad the first one is over, and we can have time to play.

She seems to love her new home and we love her very much. She spends her days taking naps on her big fluffy dog bed in the living room, playing in the yard while Mom and Dad work in the garden, playing with the garden hose, acting crazy with her older brother, chasing her kitty brother and sister, and doing her exercises from the vet (which she does not like at all!). Mom and Dad take her for walks everyday, and sometimes she just likes to lay on the deck enjoying the sun and catching bugs.

We are planning a special weekend trip, just for Sadie. We will be going camping, swimming, hiking, and taking a lot of pictures. This trip is just for Sadie to have some fun before her next surgery in late July.

I would like to take a minute to thank everyone that has donated money for Sadie's surgery. We thank God for each and every one of you, for helping to save her life! She is the most loving and gentle dog, full of spirit and life. I already can not picture our lives without her in it.

Thank You,
Patti and Andy

Muffin with best buddies Josh and Caleb.

Muffin came to PAWS after being spotted at a garage sale tied to a tree with a sign, "free to a good home." He quickly settled into his new foster home and was soon adopted by an apartment dweller who tried to un-housebreak him. Being well mannered, Muffin didn't care for that, so back he went to his foster home. Just four days later, Muffin was spotted by brothers Josh and Caleb. Luckily for Muffin, Mom and Dad agreed that he would be the perfect pet, too, and off he went to his new home. Muffin is now a cherished part of the family where his only worry is eating too many dog treats.

Hello! Here is Haley at 5 months old. We adopted her November 2002, and she is doing so well! She almost didn't make it after she was spayed, but we prayed and prayed, and she has made it through it all. It was interesting to know she was born on my birthday in August! Enjoy some of the pictures, and give Lori a big thanks in taking care of her and her brothers. Give her brothers a kiss from her if they are still there with her.
Thanks,
Jen N. :)

Hello,
I was checking out your website and thought that I would give you an update on two of our cats that were adopted from PAWS. We found both of them at PetsMart on the Carlisle Pike and none of our lives has been the same since.

Dobbin (fomerly Travis), the orange tabby, weighted two pounds when we adopted him in May of 2001. Now, he is a healthy ten pounds and a big boy! We're very concerned that he is addicted to his cat treats and we are seriously considering an intervention. :-)

Abigail (formerly Precious), was adopted from you in December 2001. Actually, we should have named her Princess because that is what she acts like. She's a tomboy that shows no fear, which sometimes is the best thing!

Both Dobbin and Abigail have been a wonderful source of entertainment, smiles, and unconditional love. Thank you to ALL of the volunteers and doctors that took such care of them before they came into our lives. Believe me when I tell you that they are our "spoiled babies."

Fondly,
Hilary and Chris M.

Miss Molly was adopted from PAWS in March of 2001.
Here she is in July of 2002 showing off her toys.

We adopted Buttons in December of 2000 from PAWS.
We call him Lucky. He is a very good dog.
Thank you, Mrs. C.

Dear PAWS,
My name is Scotty, and my sister's name is BB. I hope you don't mind, but we asked our owners to help us write this letter to tell you a little bit about ourselves, as well as an idea we came up with the help out our other animal friends.

I'll start with my sister first. She is an eight-year-young Chihuahua/Laso mix who is one of nine siblings. She has long hair and short legs and doesn't like her hair to blow when we go for a ride in the car.

You may not remember, but I'm a terrier mix who is now one-and-a-half years young. I am golden in color and am very loving and playful. I'm not sure if I have any brothers or sisters just like me or where my parents are or if they are in doggy heaven, but what I do remember is that your organization took me in when I was only three months of age and gave me lots of love, until I could find a family who would adopt me and love me forever.

That day came on August 18, 2001. What an exciting day for me! When I got to my new home, I saw there were lots of toys, treats and even a new sister to play with. Ever since, I've had everything a doggy could want, but most importantly, my family takes good care of me and loves me and my sister both dearly.

Lots of times our family takes us to the pet store where we get to pick out treats and toys and see some of our other animal friends. Many times I would ask my family why the other animals haven't been adopted yet and what can we do to help make their lives as happy as ours.

One day my sister and I were in the back yard kicking around a ball that had some sort of dirt or writing on it. When our owners came out and saw what we were playing with, they explained that even though this is a ball, it's very valuable and is not one that is meant to be played with. They said that it is valuable because it was signed by 11 of the top Nascar drivers, including a guy named Dale Ernhardt who was in heaven and that the ball could never be replaced.

We couldn't understand why a ball that's so valuable would just sit up on the shelf. Later that night, my sister and I came up with an idea to raffle off the autographed ball and donate the money to PAWS so that our other animal friends can have a nice Christmas and get lots of toys, food and goodies and things they need to be well taken care of.

We approached our family with the idea and they loved it! The next day our owners went out and bought raffle tickets and made up fliers to take to work to see if other people would be willing to help out by purchasing raffle tickets or making donations. The response was overwhelming! Our family also has some friends that have a business and in addition to buying some tickets, and they were able to sell a bunch for us to help out even more.

The drawing was on December 19th and the winner was a family who lives all the way down in Tennessee. To our amazement, through donations and raffle ticket sales, we were able to raise $473. Wow!! Isn't that great!!

We talked to our family and decided to use the money to purchase $450 in gift cards to a pet store and used a few dollars to pick up some additional toys and treats.

We hope in some small way this will help our animal friends get all the things they need to be well taken care of in hopes of one day finding a family that makes them as happy as we are.

Love, Scotty & BB
