What type of pets do you get at PAWS?
Cats, dogs, kittens and puppies are almost always available. We receive
owner surrenders, strays and animals from local shelters.
How do I adopt an animal?
Every person interested in adopting must complete an application. You must print it out and bring it to an adoption center in order to
start the process. Once the application has been reviewed and approved, an
adoption coordinator will contact you to complete the process. If adopting a
dog, a home visit may be required.
Does it cost to adopt a pet?
Yes, there is an adoption fee. PAWS feels that if a person has to pay for a
pet he or she is usually more likely to spend money on proper care.
How much does it cost to adopt a pet?
Adoption fees may vary with each individual pet. Typcially dogs range from
approximately $160 and up. Puppies may be $200 or more. Cats are $25 and up
according to age. Kittens are $100. In some cases, senior pets are available
for adoption for a donation.
Why does it cost so much?
Adoption fees help to cover care and veterinary expenses for the pet while in
PAWS’ foster and adoption program. Typically this includes an exam, food and
housing, grooming, vaccines, treatment for fleas and ticks, worming,
treatment for ear mites, tattooing or microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery.
The standard charge for theses services nearly always totals more than PAWS’
adoption fee.
What if I'm looking for a particular pet?
Check Petfinder.com or contact a PAWS adoption coordinator with your request
and we will attempt to find a homeless pet matching your requirements.
What if I rent an apartment?
You can still adopt a pet. If you rent, be sure your landlord permits pets. We will contact your landlord by phone, so please have the appropriate name and phone number available when you complete your adoption application.
What if it doesn’t work out?
If you are having a problem with your new pet, please contact your adoption
coordinator immediately. PAWS can provide information and assistance to help
your pet adjust to his new home. Although we strive to make the best match
between adoptive families and pets, sometimes things just don’t work out. If
you decide not to keep your new pet, PAWS requires that he be returned to us
so that we may find another home.
